State parks’ future to be discussed at Ontario workshop

The future of the area’s state parks, including Chino Hills State Park and Silverwood Lake Recreation Area, will be discussed during a public workshop Tuesday in Ontario.
The recently-named Parks Forward Commission is holding the workshop to gather ideas from residents on how to improve efficiency, create financial sustainability and better leverage partnerships within the state parks, according to a news release from the commission.
The workshop is part of an 18-month effort for the 12-member independent panel of experts, citizens, advocates and others to conduct a wholesale assessment of the state park system and recommend substantial improvements, the statement said. The commission ultimately will design and adopt a long-term plan for a financially sustainable and functionally relevant state park system that meets the needs of residents and creates a model for the rest of the nation.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Doubletree Ontario Airport, Lake Arrow Ballroom, at 222 North Vineyard Ave. The proceedings will be webcast live on www.cal-span.org. For more information, visit parksforward.com.

Jamie Harwood and her son Taylor, who is a 7th grader at Briggs Elementary School, are both avid supporters and participate in several Chino community organizations and events – including the Chino Youth Museum, 5K DairyAire Run, and the YMCA. In fact, it was Jamie who organized the Y’s first Reindeer Romp. Volunteering and serving the community is always a top priority for this mother and son team. Ontario names new city manager

ONTARIO >> The City Council has named deputy city manager Al Boling to succeed Chris Hughes as city manager.
The council unanimously made the decision during closed session of Tuesday’s council meeting. The appointment was announced during the meeting.
Boling has been with the Ontario for 17 years, first serving as the city’s first internal auditor and in the role of deputy city manager for the past six years.
Hughes, the city manager for the past three years, announced Thursday he will retire in December.


“I have the most utmost confidence and respect with Al Boling,” Mayor Paul Leon said. “I know the city will be well taken care of.”
As deputy city manager, Boling has overseen several city departments but has usually has a low-profile during council meetings.
“A lot of people don’t even know who Al is,” said Councilman Alan Wapner, motioning Boling to stand up to the podium at the council meeting.
Wapner said he has had several long conversations with Boling and is confident in his capabilities for the position.


The outgoing city manager has been at the helm of the battle for local control of L.A./Ontario International Airport. And on Tuesday, Wapner assured the public that things will be no different with Boling, adding he has been involved in the issue with the airport from the start.
